Default Bass Hunter or Jon Boat

I am looking at a 10 foot Bass Hunter for 8 to 10-acre pond fishing or fishing in and around a marina on our reservoir. I have researched their website. Last week, I stopped by their facility in West Point, Mississippi and was very impressed with the one-piece construction. One of the owners walked me through how they are made. He was very nice and took the time to answer my questions.

So now, I am trying to decide between the Bass Hunter or similar plastic boat and a used Jon boat (14 foot or so). I have been looking for a used Jon boat but have not found one in the price range I am willing to pay or in what I consider good or better condition. I do not think I need gas motor.

Any thoughts on the stability of the Bass Hunter or other similar boats as compared to a Jon boat? Any thoughts on the 10 foot Bass Hunter?

Send Snubby a PM. Don't know what brand he has but has one that style and has a small gas motor on it. He can give you a lot of info because he has spent a lot of time fishing from it.

I have an older 8' bass hunter,IMHO the bass hunter is considerably more stable than a 10 ' John boat.I would choose a 10' bass hunter over a 12' John boat ,but that is pretty much the extent of my dealings between the two.

He's right I had the Bass Hunter II 8' back in the 80's powered with a 1.5 Eska and 30# TM, it was awsome but found a 14 ft. Semi-V and sold it to recoup funds. Some day's I wish I still had it. Now, I have a 1236 Jon with a 5hp and 55# TM for small impoundments ; it's great until some knuckle head brakes the wake zone.

I have a 10 ft Sun Dolphin that I fish out of on the smaller ponds and lakes. I love it. Very stable and I use a 35 pound thrust trolling motor and it gets around great.

I’ve fished from a canoe, hunter and Jon. Love the canoe as long as it has a flat floor like a Grumman. The 8’ hunter was stable as anyone could ask for but was hard for me to load and unload without a trailer. Have to have a way to get them from truck to water without dragging it on concrete. The only Jon I consider any more are the ones over 36” and 42 is much better. Length not such an issue but a 10’ is a solo boat. 55 lb TM moves any of them great, 35 lb has a hard time in a stiff headwind. Being 61 and no longer robust, I would do a 14’ X 42 on a trailer and a 3 hp outboard or so and a 55 lb.TM. Been lookin for one for a while but priorities........

Blue Sky Boatworks (built by Jackson Kayak) is an interesting option to the Bass Hunter style boat. Not sure but probably quite a bit more expensive though.
