I like to shoot docks. So I like the ultra lite gear. My favorite spinning reel happens to be a Shakespeare sigma 200A that I purchased about 30 yrs ago. It’s mounted on a 4’6” MR Crappie rod, loaded with 4lb vicious hi vis line.
I have a St Croix Triumph lite spinning rod with a Shimano 2500 reel I can cast a 1/16 oz jig easily Just make sure your rod is long enough to go around the front of your yak.

I have spent a bunch of money in the past on high dollar rod and reels. I started using a 7 foot Zebco crappie taker rod and Lew's spinning reel and I love it. The sensitivity is great and a very good backbone. I also have the same rod in a 10 foot they are both great for the money
I really like my Wally Marshall Pro Series rod and reel from Lews. If it’s good enough for Mr. Crappie it’s good enough for me!
I like my 5ft. UL Ugly Stik w/ Shimano Spirex 1000 loaded with 4lb. Stren. It fits the bill for me.
I have a bunch of rods I like, my favorite varies, but right now it is my StCroix Trout Series 6' UL rod with Daiwa Luvias 1003. I just got the reel, put 4 lb Mr Crappie line on, and I really like it. Been throwing jigs - only problem is, I have not caught a single crappie on it yet! It cranks in shellcrackers real nicely, though!
