Thanks for all the info. I got all my components in the mail yesterday and ready to do the install, just need to pick up some duct seal this afternoon and something to place my battery in and then I will be ready for the water! Thanks again to all who posted info and tips.

I wish garmin would incorporate screw in terminals on these units.
    Good tip!

The installation is complete. I purchased a “dry box” from Walmart and mounted with Velcro underneath my seat and mounted the transducer just in front of my battery also under my seat. Hopefully it all works out when I hit the water Name: IMG_0982.jpg

Finally got a break in the weather here in Tennessee and was able to get out and try out the garmin, however, I could not get the transducer to read through the hull of my boat accurately. So I found a curtain rod and a piece of black water hose and slipped the rod into it and drilled a hole through it and mounted my transducer to the bottom of that and came up with a handy way to get my invention to work with one of my RAM mount rod holders. Works great with it being in the water. Can anyone speak to their first time using a depth/fish finder? I am having trouble distinguishing whether or not there are fish in structure. Its probably just because I haven't used electronics before. Any info anyone could provide would be great. Thanks!

I love mine I have my transducer mounted in the hull I took a foam kneeling pad like they use for gardening and the transducer fit right in the hole cut out for the handle. i cut it just big enough to hold the transducer and silicon it to the yak. then when i head out i take a little lake water and pour it in the space open around the transducer(dont take much ) and it reads great.

I am pretty sure the problem with your first transducer mount is it was not on the actual bottom of the kayak. That is the floor, but there is another layer and air between it and the water which was the problem. You need to mount it directly to the outer hull, up in front or behind the black plastic standing floor in the Kilroy. I am working on learning to read a Garmin 43CV myself, but it looks like I may be off the water for a little while due to back issues. Good luck.
