I have been a guide for 10 years. I have owned over 25 kayaks in that span. And it is still climbing. Anywhere you will be dealing with boat traffic you do not want to be a the kayaks limits. You want some extra room. Capacity wave handling ability.even A 10 ft kayak is marginal to offer that. The old saying it's not what you are doing it is what everyone else does you have to watch out for.

Not sure how it compares with the one you mention but I also have a Ride 115x Angler that has a preset place for a fish finder as well. To be honest I don't even use it because it is so far up front compared to where I am sitting.

I made myself a portable holder which I can sit right in front of me and easily use the buttons and see the screen. Plus it's also portable so I can use in in my Tarpon which I tend to use more often than the Ride.

The ride 115x is a very nice kayak it is an upgrade from the tarpon platform for stability and comfort. It was wilderness way to enter the stand and fish market. At 11.5 ft it handles pretty well it is easy to load and a little heavier. The pods are typically located in foward position out of the way of paddle strokes and standing areas. Unless you breach a wave it is also a drier area less likely to have water damage electronics. Hence a very popular location on many models. The ride series new is beyond the mention budget however on occasion a used new comes In new the $600 mark. It is a healthy kayak that would be an excellent choice given the criteria he mentioned in the beginning. If the budget allowed. If accompanied by the air pro max seat by far the most comfortable unit mentioned so far as well.

great discussion and learned a lot froggy and everyone. thanks so much. have a lot of strip pits around T Hill here in no mo and also creeks in STL area I want to use one for. I have a short bed truck and a 11 footer would seem to stick out too far. do they make bracket that goes in your hitch to strap it into that would make it more practical? thanks.

They do make a hitch extender. And yes 11 is far more practical. Not sure what bed you have but. A 6 ft bed drops the tail gate. Gives 8 ft of support more than enough for an 11 ft boat. Strap it in and it will be fine

I have a short bed on a GMC. I use a ladder rack for 2 10' yaks now and 2 on the bed. I want to haul 2 more so I'm making a post on the rack so the yaks are on their sides, 4 on top. 650 LB 2-BAR ADJUSTABLE TRUCK LADDER RACK PICK UP UNIVERSAL LUMBER KAYAK UTILITY

what streams do you like in the StL area? I live just across the river in the Alton area and most of my use is on small ponds. Haven't taken them to the float streams. It'd be fun to meet up sometime.

Thanks for all the opinions and input everyone. Really helping. Unfortunately there aren't many demo days this time of year so it's a little harder to try out some yaks. I've been doing more research and I think I really like the FeelFree Lure 10. It has a lot of nice features- wheel in the keel, gravity seat, accessory tracks, standing platform, etc. It's also a foot longer but not too long that hurts mobility. Also got good reviews for stability. Unfortunately I'm not crazy about the price at $1000 without paddle but what are your opinions on this yak? Positive/negative?

It b is. Good boat the seat does have alot of small parts when mixed with sand they may jam or fail. The set is comfortable it only provides lower back support. I am in NC if you you are close by I can arrange a demo. I say quality wise the perception pescador pro 12 and the lure 10 are the same . The wheel is nice addition however the tracks for gear are not. Direct swap with the market standard. A used ride 115x airpro Max would offer far more kayak for less. I am a fan of Nucanoe personally.

live in valley park area and simpson lake has public ramps and is interesting. plus have place at Lake STL just bought and want to explore, there are creeks flowing in that want to go to. then you have meremac river here and ramps up at castlewood park which give you meremac access. new to this so want to explore all of them. it would be fun to hook up with the local CC members.
