Kayak Duck Hunting
When I bough my kayak last summer, I knew it was possible I might spend more time hunting than fishing out of it, so the camo model was a prime consideration. I needed it simple, tough and lightweight and so far - it's working well. I'm sure it's not as comfy as the fishing rigs (particularly the SOTs) - but for what I use it for, close to home, fairly short trips, I've been really happy with it. Used it yesterday for duck hunting for the first time and I'm really happy with it.
Was just wondering how many others did their waterfowling out of a kayak.

Nothing like waterfowling from a kayak. I have been doing it for over twenty years now and to me it's the only way to go. Looks like an Old Towne Vapor? Great little yak for fishing and hunting. Great job.

slabrus - Good Eye! Yeah Vapor Angler 10. Only 43 lbs and I love the large open cockpit. Not a lot of decoy storage, so I need to figure our a way to transport them easier. There's a couple of wade and shoot areas not too far from me - so I might give that a go this fall, but the areas I'd go (obviously) are the areas that are too deep to wade, so they're usually not crowded at all. So - that's what my 'plan' is. hahaa - we'll see. It may be a big pain - but certainly in the really shallow stuff - this thing should be awesome. I use to have a layout boat (actually a couple) that I made - this is a bit smaller but the layouts (being made from wood) were way too heavy to transport easily... Over 150 lbs loaded up. very stable though - I'll give them that...

I haven't had the chance to get out this year but when I do I use the Native Watercraft Ultimate 14.5. Lots of room for decoys, and also large enough to lay in if I chose to do so.

Hey, all.
I really like all of your rigs! I have been trying to figure out a good way to do this from my Jackson Coosa. The actual hunting part shouldn't be a problem at all, but I didn't think too much about duck hunting from it when i bought it. I have the yellow/black/white coloration on mine. I'm still trying to think of a way to cover it, so I don't stand out so much. Painting isn't an option, and I'm going to have to wait for a while to get a new one (Wife and I have a baby on the way, this January)... Any suggestions that wouldn't break the bank?

Awesome camo job on the kayak - looks like it mighta been born as a lime green one. This is good to know cause a buddy of mine has two like that and he's been wondering if it'd hold the paint well enough to try it. I'm gonna show him these pics...

If you don't want to paint and assuming the color matches okay - maybe those little 4'x4' 'grass mats' that you can buy? Probably be enough to have one or two and split them down the middle to bungee on top and back? - plus with a little OD tarp underneath (especially if you're stationary once you're set up) ???
