    Default Float tubes anyone?

I've had a Creek Company 420 odc for years now and as of the last couple years it's been sitting in my garage. I recently got the itch to get it out and took it out the other day and forgot how much versatile and fun it was. One thing that bugged me after a few hours was my butt hurt so I made a brace for under the seat out of 1/2" schedule 40 pvc pipe so it doesn't buckle and made some rod holders out of 1 1/4" pvc pipe, it was all very simple to make and has re sparked my interest in this tube over buying a kayak (for now, lol) my next plan is to find a way to secure my Marcum Showdown sonar to the tube which is very doable. Just wondering if anyone still floats in a tube or has everyone gone to kayaks.

I have owned a float tube since 1972. I still love to crawl into my tube and use it wet during the summer. LOTS of bass and bluegill have come to my hand over the years. A tube is the best way to fish a pond or small lake. The fish do not spook when you
paddle around. Its a hoot when you hook a big fish and you get towed.

FG, your post just reminded me about the tube I have put away in the bldg. Really enjoyed the time out on the water with it. Small walk in ponds or a cove off the main lake. It and a flyrod combined with a small fly box made for some great memories.

Got me wanting to pull it out now before cool weather kicks in lol

I'll have to try my light fly rod from it. A local fly shop went out of business a couple years ago and had 50-80% off everything and picked up a 4wt Butterstick rod and a tiny Orvis reel just for small fish. What flies do you guys recommend, I have boxes of flies for Steelhead but none for pan fish yet. I suppose I can tie my own, just need a good pattern.
Slabbacks, I hope you do! Our water in this bay was 83 two days ago and the air temps have been well into the high 80's. One thing that made me more comfortable was buying some Columbia wading pants, my breathable waders were still too hot, now it's like sitting in a warm pool.

Below, in PDF is the most productive fly in my vest. I tie black, brown and yellow. The yellow is best for gills and the black and brown works well for Red Ears. Little bank runner bass will take either.

    Wilsons Bully Bluegill Spider

I have a $99 DF mounted on a plastic box with a 12V drill battery inside and the transducer tie-wrapped to a piece of foam that I take with me to find the drop offs and I do very well in the backs of the coves and bays on Kentucky Lake.

The boys with the $100K bass boats will look at you strangely when you walk backwards down the boat ramp and start catching fish within 10 yards of the boat dock.

Got mine out 2 weeks ago for a short trip. When fly rodding for bream I normally use the cheap poppers.
Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.
Teach a man to fish, he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

Forgot ot about the walking backwards!...it has been to long. And yes it did add for some looks but while others were flinging from the bank I was working the spots they could get to.

Like ncnat I enjoy a popper. Fun bite. Sometimes I tie a dropper wet fly off the popper.
