    Default Inflatable pontoon boat additions

This is the my crappie rig. I have not had any luck using the trolling motor. the mount is n a bad place and no matter where i move it i have trouble controlling the motor, any suggestions? My first that was to attach and outrigger to the existing mount moving the motor to the outside of the pontoons. I know i need rod holders, and i have a fish finder that i carry with me. any other suggestions from y'all, i need ideas.
also i am considering raising the seat 4 in because im 6'4 300# and i feel like that would add some comfort.

Scott, when you say you're having trouble with control, do you mean actually operating the motor, or the way it propels your inflatable?

Wonder if you could flip the head 180* and make a mount to put the TM up front (between your legs/feet)? They make a "big man" seat, you might look at.

When people mention rod holders, I never know if they just mean for storage (when moving between spots) or for actually fishing. Either way, you could add a rocket launcher style holder on the back of the seat, and one on each side (of the seat bottom) for easy/quick access when fishing.

to the site Scott. Other than a mount on the front, I'd be stumped too. No keel on that toon makes it hard to steer with a trolling motor.
I've had the same problem with a Poke Boat, no keel. NeonMoons idea of rod holders behind the seat looks possible, not many other
places to mount a rod holder. Guessing you were talking about trolling crankbaits. I've never given much thought to using a toon craft to crappie
fish from. Maybe someone with experience will chime in and offer advice. Good luck to ya.

I am going to check the trolling motor in the morning the the 180 degree turn, i have considered that before, i was just afraid that it make it look like a bumper boat. i am a 300# guy on a blow up raft, i already look funny so it cant hurt. i really dont care for trolling im more just wanting to get to stumps and under bridges to jig. i am working on plans to build a foam boat using one of my other pontoon frames, that will give me alot more options for rod holders motor mounting and even built in dry storage areas. If yall of pictures of other toons like mine rigged out please post i would love to see them.

i just went and checked and the 180 turn is a no-go. what do yall think of attaching an outrigger to the mount and setting the motor right outside the pontoon? it isnt ideal but it might work. the rod holders that you mentioned will be added.

Raising the seat will be a big improvement, however it will render the oars useless as they will now hit your knees (I realize that is probable not a concern except for emergency purposes). A standing platform (rather than pegs) will also add comfort and give you a place to mount rod holders. Another plus is if you drop a jig or anything it falls on the deck, rather than in the water. However your particular boat has fairly small tubes. Also if you plan to fish public waters, in most states you will need to registar your boat. I suggest placing your registration numbers on plexiglass and then zip tie them to the frame. You might be able to enlarge the skeg on the trolling motor, to help with the steering problem.

Here is my solo toon (before any additions):

Here is my toon. Kept it pretty simple except for a nice mod for the FF. I'll post a view of an anchor assembly I made out of a plastic soda crate and a Scotty anchor rig. Haven't worked my way up to a trolling motor yet.

Here (IN) Registration isn't required until you add a motor (including electric), but you still need a Launch Permit for State waters, either Motorized or Non-Motorized.

Nice looking 'toons! I can see where adding the decking would be helpful, especially to prevent dropping stuff as mentioned, I'm a butter-fingers Ditto on the plastic crate WT.

Scott, I'm surprised there isn't a couple screws under the control head that can't be removed and the head spun 180*.

Great looking rigs. I am staring my modifications tomorrow. My wife gave a hand held fish finder/ depth reader for Christmas a few years ago so i am finally going to install the hardware for that. The back wore rack is going to get a plyboard top with boat carpet on it (i may attachsome styofaom to the bottom of this to offset the weight of the battery). The seat will be raised at least 4 inches. A 2x4 board will the attached to the motor mount and extend 2 feet on either side of each pontoon allowing the trolling motor to be mounted out side of the toon and rod holders (for storage) will be attached to this board as well on the other end to balance it. I will attempt to make a rod holder for fishing that will run under my seat and com up at a 45 degree angle, i will use pvc for this. If at all possibel, i am going to attempt to raise the ore locks for offset the seat being raised. Once i get the seat raised I will see if that is needed. My neighbors are used to seeing a fat guy setting on a blow up boat in the front yard, this time while they are looking I may ask them to help.
