Default fishing from an anchored kayak

I fish from a Disco 119 solo canoe. Not much different from a yak. I use the same paddle etc. Yesterday, I found some crappie under a dock (small fish but one about every cast). I was getting kind off aggravated trying to stay in position "shoot jigs" under this dock. Paddling and casting I guess I need to come up with a good anchoring system. Anyone do much fishing from an anchored yak? Got any tips?

First one to say "buy a hobie" is really going to make me mad! . Loan me the cash and I will buy one lol!

I'm not sure what your canoe looks like but I'd suggest checking out anchor trolleys. I have one on my kayak but haven't really used it yet. It allows you to position your boat however you want based on where you slide the anchor point. Also I purchased a drift sock for windy days when I want to troll an area but the wind is too strong. There are tons of YouTube videos about kayak fishing anchor systems. I went with a no drill solution. I'll show you if we go fishing next week. Looks like some nice weather coming in!

I do alot of anchoring when fishing from my yak once i found a school of crappie i'll anchor up an let the current or wind move me side to side over them. I have a trolley full lenght of my yak an use a 3lbs grapple anchor.

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

Some good mods on guide 119 here (which should also work on the disco 119), including a grommet through the bow for the anchor line:

Is the 3 lb anchor doing the trick for you guys? I picked up a 1.5 lb and it's just dragging along the bottom. I have a Ride 135 so it may be the fact that my kayak is too big for the little anchor. I'm gonna pick up a different anchor this weekend, but was curious how large to go. I have it on an anchor trolley as well. Also, my drift sock wasn't inflating right, but I'll troubleshoot that one another time. The crappie are moving in here so I'm more concerned about anchoring and hitting the brush around the shores now!

In situation like that aside from the anchor set up I try to go upwind from where I want to be put my anchor down. Then am able to let out more line or less depending on how close or far away I want to be to the strucure. Can you this for casting to docks or fishing open water stucture so you arent anchoring right in the middle of where the fish are and either spooking them or getting jigs caught up in your anchor line.

I have my 3lb claw anchor secured at bottom and then tie-wrapped at top. That way if you hang, small tie-wrap will break and anchor will pull out from bottom. You should actually see two holes on anchor. I moved the clamp at top to bottom of anchor.

I usually have rubber band around anchor claws and use more like a 3lb ball weight.

3lb should be more than enough, but nothing wrong with going up to 5 lb as long as you are not in any current.
