    Default UpGrading my Bass Hound

Decided over the summer that the Bass Hound I picked up needed some upgrading before I bring it back out for the fall.

Noticed that things were sliding around and I was slipping when standing up.

    Made paper patterns.

Laid patterns on carpet and sprayed around.

Cut patterns and then I'll spray glue them down.

I think this will make a nice improvement for $25

I cut my teeth fishing out of a 10.2 Basshound, seems like I could afford to go more too. We duck hunted and fished the bottom off, then I had a new bottom welded on and still used it. Memories....... Just a bit though, be careful those skids don't blow out, in my day we couldn't get anything to stick long enough, except liquid tape.

That's one thing I was worrying about, but I saw on a site (polyboats) that those guys use the spray adhesive and I'm pretty sure those boats are HDPE also. I'm going to rough it up a bit with some sand paper first. I use LEXEL for sealing and it sticks pretty good.

Got the pieces all cut and ready to glue down. Now I just need some 50% nights to drop the water temp about 10-15 degrees

Research tells me to use the 3M (#90) spray. Before I go buy that does anyone else have any personal experience glues stuff to HDPE?

Have you considered using Velcro to fasten the carpet pieces in so they could be removed to hose-out the boat? Looks good!

no experience with what you're attempting but need to make sure the glue is compatible with everything its gonna touch. Nice work too.
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

Didn't think about Velcro but last time I tried to use it on plastic the sticky did not hold. I think washing it out should be OK as this is the same carpet I had on the deck in my alum boat

That's what I was thinking. When I went to the 3m site and used the "Plastic" to "Polyolefins" that's their recommendation on what to use.
Here is the link to the #90.

I had heard they came out with "something", just don't know what. A autobody supply shop might be able to help. Or, somebody that welds HDPE or molds it. K-L industries makes or used to make your boat. They do "glue" the top/bottom shells together under the black rub-rail. I sure hope I didn't open a can of worms for you.

Looks great! How you liking the boat?

Don't know how that glue holds up to water but in the event it doesn't here is some marine grade carpet glue.
