    Default Hillsdale

    Friends-
Finally got my boat in June of 23. Closest lake is Hillsdale and i have done well with the crappie trolling bandits and jigging around the trees. Now itís cold and not sure where to go when the water temp drops to high 30ís and low 40ís. Where will the crappie be stacked up for winter? Of course I know where the trees are but havenít located any large brush piles. Can someone point me in the right direction for the brush piles. I looked on online to see if KDWP had any GPS locations but no luck.

    Thanks

I would be looking along the river channel on the west side and where the channel makes the big loop. We catch them on the drop here in about 20 to 30 fow from now tell the end of February when they start moving up in cove for pre spawn. Around boat docks at the marina is another place they will stay all winter.Name: Screenshot_20231126-142109.jpg

Thank you Skeeter. Is there any structure around the channel bend that is holding the Crappie?

Yes. There is heavy brush there. It's also one of my favorite spots for crappie, all year, on Hillsdale. Find the schooling shad and you'll find crappie. Often out in front of the visable trees. I don't even tie up. Just drop small jigs through the schools of shad. Crappie are underneath feeding. You will often be over the channel in 30 ft of water. Crappie will be 10-15 feet down.

Last Wednesday you could see several schools of shad on the surface along the dam. Birds were in a feeding frenzy. Very cool

Thanks for the input, never fished that far north and not trying to give away anyone's fishing spot just trying to help someone find fish by looking at a map and learn winter fishing and crappie movement.Hillsdale
