    Default Night stalking at Perry-

was a bust! Didn't catch a single fish. At least I know my green lights are working, the 2 million bugs we attracted couldn't be wrong.

Bummer. At least you got out and beat the heat. Try again later this week, during the day, as the temps and humidity have dropped

Likely, you're doing all of this and just hit a string of bad luck.

This time of year, I have decent luck in the Slough Creek arm. I fish the old creek beds that are 25-30 ft deep. Using my fish finder, I usually find crappie on a bend in the creek fishing where the "bank" of the bend comes up shallower. Maybe, 20 ft. I find the crappie suspended in 10-12 feet over the 20 ft creek bank.

The other thing I try, this time of year, over the same area I look for schools of shad with my fish finder. Again, old creek beds in 25-30 ft of water. Sometimes I find the crappie under the shad schools. Of course, there will be a variety of fish, under the shad schools, that you will catch. Since these shad schools are rarely in brush, I cast small lures. When I locate crappie, I will often go back to jigs

Thanks that is very helpful. During the spawn this year, I destroyed the crappie. We caught hundreds of fish. I live 10 minutes from Slough creek ramp so I could go a lot.

This night fishing thing has gotten into my head. I know when I get it figured out it will be a blast. We saw lots of shad and predators chasing them, so we flipped some jigs into the balls of baitfish, to no avail.

Try to set up on a traveling spot may it be channel, points and humps. If your submerge lights not drawing any shad in after setting there for awhile then moved somewhere else. No bait fish coming to your lights mean no crappie.
