    Default Anybody know Shawnee?

Got a buddy that just moved within 10 mins of lake. He’s not much of a fisherman. Just looking for an idea of what might be available to for from there.

A lot like the old Wannabe... except with fewer bad words. And Karate chop action. But, yes, still purtier than you.

Can you narrow it down some please? Lake Shawnee, Shawnee state Lake or something else.

    Bank or boat fishing?

The lake has about every type of fish you could imagine for the location but quantity and quality is the issue. Small lake that gets a lot of skiers and jet skis. If I were to just bank fish it I would target Chanel Cat and Bass bot large and smallmouth. What brush piles it had rotted away years ago. It does have some pretty nice Bluegill also.

Lots of other good reservoirs close by for him like Clinton, but if you want more Shawnee info let me know.

    That’s the kind of info
I was looking for exactly. He currently doesn’t have a boat and he probably has a fishing rod or 2 - to give you and idea of how green he is. But he has 3 kids from 8-15 so targeting bluegill, bass and catfish from the bank might be right up his alley. Any better opportunities at Clinton given his skill set?

Lots of lakes and rivers in this area for him to try, Clinton, Perry, Pamona, Melvern, are all within 45 min of him. Shawnee is friendly to bank fishing are it is well mowed. This time of year I would use a crawler tipped crappie jig 2-3 foot under a float and slow retrieved.

    Default Anybody know Shawnee?

On way home from Topeka. Just wanted to say thanks again for the help. Took my buddy and 2 of his kids to Lake Shawnee Saturday. Everyone caught a few each. Largemouth, Brim, a channel cat and a couple of yellow perch on night crawlers all from one floating dock in a couple of hours. Nothing big, but enough for a small fry so they got the full experience. Left him enough rods, tackle and advice to take them again.

Lake Shawnee was very well appointed with walking trails, lots of floating docks, a garden area and even a heated dock for wi tee fishing. Seems like a place with a little something for everyone. And Kansas was a pretty state..except for the toll roads. Y’all need to straighten that out.

    Anyway, thanks again.

Glad it worked out for y’all, the yellow perch are real scarce around here and Shawnee is the only place I’ve ever caught any. I think some where stocked 40 to 50 years ago and nothing since. They seem to have made a resurgence in the last 5 years.
