Kanopolis has been good for big crappie this year. Our son (age 14) has started kayak fishing there this year when we go out and thinks it is fun when he sets the hook expecting a crappie and it turns out to be a drum like you caught. Fun on an ultralight! Biggest we caught weighed just under 3#.

Thanks. We caught more big crappie this year than I have ever caught before. We haven't been out on the main body of the lake at all, especially with him in the kayak, but have just focused our fishing back in the coves. Picked up a used kayak for me last night to be able to explore a little more with him.

I have a small hummingbird sonar that I took off my kayak when I got rid of them that I would give you to put on yours or his. I ran it off the small battery they use on the deer feeders. You can get them a Walmart and they only weigh a few pounds. If you want it we can arrange to meet up there soon and I will bring my boat and take you both fishing.

I used to fish Kanopolis many, many years ago. The Ex wife’s family is from Lindsborg. We caught walleye and white bass, and the occasional drum or catfish. I don’t remember ever catching a single crappie. Glad to hear that lake has a few now.
