    Default Perry Holiday Weekend...so far

Fished Perry yesterday and was able to sort 8 keepers out of a bunch of smaller 6-8" fish, some were still darkened up males. I'm still learning on Perry so I was pretty excited to get back out. So last night the forecast looked like the rain would hold off until noon so I went out this morning again. And they were biting good! First pass over my spot and I got a double, pulled 3 more keepers into the boat and just started to get into them and a nasty looking storm rolled up. Right about the time I got back to the ramp it started pouring. Was only out for an hour and a half, if that, and managed 5 keepers, nothing to brag about but enough to make a small meal. All fish were caught about 10 feet down on jigs, seemed to bite a lot more earlier in the day than around noon.

Went out again this morning and did much better; limited out in 5 hrs. Fishing the same as before, 10' of water, double jigs brown and chartreuse. Started at about 6:30 and most of the fish (~16) came before 9:30 and the last four really tested my patience but I was able to get off the water with my limit before lunch and before too many crazies got out on the water. Biggest fish was 14", two 13" and a handful of 12". Still some darkened up males and females with eggs. Overall, a fun morning on the water.

I was fortunate enough to be able to go out again this morning. Not quite as good as yesterday, only managed to get 16 today. Caught them all the same as the days before. Most were being a little more shy today when hitting and I missed quite a few and had about 3 shake the hook as I was reaching the net towards them including one that looked for sure to be over 15". Caught a lot more dinks today as well. One interesting thing about today was that I managed to haul in a keeper Black Crappie out of Perry; so that caught me off guard after pulling in white after white all weekend. Overall a great weekend on the water. I don't know when my next free weekend will be but I sure hope that when it comes I can catch as many or more fish than this weekend. Until then, I have a pretty full freezer.

Looks to me like the Cyclone is tearing the fish up. Great report and nice pictures.

Great report man. I was out on Perry all day yesterday and didn't do so well. Couple of bites missed, couple of dinks, that's about it. Are you using tubes or a certain jig?

I was fishing a a variety of jigs. Most of the fish came off of a Yum F2 wooly tube 1.5". Don't let the name fool you, it has a solid body like a plastic grub but the tail or skirt is like a tube. I think their name for the color combo was dutchess but it was brown body, chartreuse skirt. Was also getting some on a Creme 2" curly tail, black and silver body, chartreuse skirt. I think the color is more important than jig or tube. So, common denominator here would be to wiggle something with a chartreuse tail in front of them and hopefully they'll bite.
