KAG from the looks of the postings on this thread you won't be alone at being on a unfamiliar lake. I'm sure you will find plenty of very generous assistance from those that know this lake on where and how to fish this lake especially on these crappie outings arranged on CdotC. Anyhow that has been my experience on these types of outings. For me they have been very low key and very enjoyable events for meeting other fishers.
I will be fishing mainly with a long rod using a jig and minnow around any standing timber or a drop shot type rig with a hook and minnow if working brush. I also will be using a bait caster with those wire spreaders with hooks and minnows deeper into those piles with Kentucky type rigs. Anyhow that's the way I will be starting out their until shown something else is the way to get them in the boat.
I'm only partial to fishing tournaments for big fish only because I think getting a big fish is really a matter of a lot of luck which is the only way I could ever have a chance in a tournament. I'm not interested in the regular tournament formats that the good fishers like to compete in - it seems so much like something I'm averse to like work.
So if it's only unfamiliarity with this lake for you I think you should disregard this notion since you will find plenty of folks out there willing to make your more familiar with it. As for me I would share all I know about that lake which is not that much with someone that might show me around Milford if I ever get out to fish that lake someday.
Anyhow hope you reconsider and make it out there.
