    Default Turkey Hunting

I live in south arkansas, & planning a turkey hunting trip to Kansas. I came last year & had no luck. Can anyone help me in finding a decent place to hunt on public land. Thanks for any help.

Bring a boat. Clinton, Melvern, Perry, John Redmond, all look good this year. Consider boat in spots far from parking lots. Sitting offshore just before dawn and picking a landing spot based on rooster goobling. Birds will typically go up hill away from the lake. Timing is as important as location. Early is good but pressure can be heavy. Late has less birds but more hens nested. Get one to gobble back past 10am and you should be good to go. Late morning strategy works great early or late in the season. Don't trespass. Good luck.

I agree hunting public ground around the lakes bring a boat. You are able to access areas that are a long walk from roads. While fishing for carppie at Melvern have seen and heard a number of Toms struting their stuff close to the lake.

Redmond won't be good. High water and untimely rains took a toll on the birds. And it gets absolutely pounded. Flint Hills NWR was discussing closing to turkey hunting due to the insane pressure. Melvern looks good and I have seen them waterfowl hunting. The secret on KS is out. I talked to lots of pissed off oos hunters and a bunch more were venting on forums.

Flint Hills is where I hunted last year . I was there late in the season, the water was high , a lot of roads was closed . Only heard a couple of birds gobble 1 time . I saw a lot of birds on private lands in the fields. Any more wma's that may be good this year. Thanks for the help.

If it were me I'd be putting in for some of the special hunts.

Should have illegally hunted the closed side of the refuge like some Arkansas guys did. They claimed the "I didn't know" excuse. Now there are big "No hunting" signs on the areas they were using to access the closed side.

Here is the best advice I can give you. What ever town you are staying in get up early the first morning and go find where the farmers are having coffee that morning. Buy them breakfast and have a good chat and introduce yourself. If you don't leave with at least one private spot to turkey hunt I am not sure you speak English then.
It's not duck season so I have to do something... :D
