Default Replacing the floor in my 16 ft. alumacraft boat

Howdy fellow crappiefisherfolks. Im pulling out all the bad floor in my boat, and was wandering if you folks had an opinion on what type of plywood to use. Seems like a 50 50 thing, between marine grade and exterior plywood. Any suggestions would be helpful. Also any suggestions on how to replace the solid rivets that I have had to drill out. Thanks in advance.

The best way i have found to replace the floor is to just use regular plywood and get some fiberglass resin with the hardner. Paint that on both sides and the ends and that makes it completely water proof.

I did about the same thing for a Bass Tracker 17.5.......I took the raised deck off and replaced with aluminum in the bottom of the boat. There is a sign shop where I live and they had damaged signs that worked perfect for the floor. Did not have to worry about falling out of the boat after that......only falling in the boat. Good Luck

If I remember correctly for your rivet replacement, try "cherry bulb locks". These are used in the aviation industry.

Just don't use CCA plywood. The laminates will separate.

I'm clueless on this but did find this site on my google search on 'CCA plywood'.

    3/4" CCA Treated Plywood

From this site " Why CCA treated plywood for my pontoon?

The EPA changed the laws regulating the treatment of plywood used in residential construction and by doing so eliminated CCA treatment for the majority of plywood. The process in which most plywood is now treated will not withstand the marine environment as it will warp and rot if left uncovered. Plywood found at lumber yards is designed for home building, not boat building. Non-CCA treated plywood has a chemical compound in it that will interact with metal and aluminum, eating it over time and thinning it. "

Thanks a bunch for all of your replies. I believe I will go with a marine grade plywood. As far as the rivets, there is an aircraft shop down the road from me, thathave what I need. I just have to figure out how to install them. Also, lots of questions on how to make ply wood fit, since this is a V bottom. And I am not able to keep any of the floor for patterns. Thanks agan.

Mike, my suggestion on making the floor fit is to see if you can find some large cardboard boxes (think refrigerator or washer and dryer) and use that to lay out and make a pattern in your boat. It is time consuming but I have made a lot of patterns that way and I can spend the time to get it to fit the way I want it to without every putting a saw blade to wood. Once I get the cardboard pattern to fit like I want it to, then I transfer it to the plywood and cut it out on the large side of the line. That leaves me some room to trim and make it fit perfectly.

try tinboats.com. Lots of information there on modifying aluminum boats.
