Spent a few hours Friday night painting and tying a few jigs to fish Saturday. Just a few, all same colors, to match the season and water. Didn’t get eyes on em, but new theyd catch and they did. Sat today when got done with family time and started putting eyes on, trying a few new products.
Went from
To
Done with overcoats. I spend too much time painting to have this happen.
Two hours sat afternoon in the rain...
If I can’t find a better alternative I’ll give up on eyes.

Get some Clear Vinyl, it take longer to dry proper, but will not discolor Chartreuse like Sally's will and it's stronger than powder paint cured and makes for a beautiful finish even over Powder paint! CSI makes it too and can be found pretty easy in small jars or even a 4 oz jar or even a Pt. to Qt' can. It also seems to add a little depth to a painted head.

Stay away from glues and sealers that have acetone in it. It can and will discolor paint. I use Waspi fly head cement, which is water base. Works ok.
The best thing my dad ever gave me was his love of fishing.
I am not sure about that and I do use the CSI and since I got their thinner at the same time, I can not answer that for sure, but if it's gloss, maybe? I also have a separate thinner from CSI to slow down the curing. I got this so I could try using an air brush painting, but I got so much spidering, I gave the idea up, but still will use this Retarder Thinner they sell. I do think if I wanted to that I could also use my MEK to thin is, but have not tried it since I have the CSI thinner already. Do you need thinner on hand...absolutely your do as it will thicken into a solid over time. I have a bunch of 4 oxo jars and have to add thinner to them every once in a while because I don't use them enough. Maybe I will start painting more vinyl since I take my time these days. I don't get in a hurry any more, lol!
Oh and any color of Vinyl other than Black will need the clear vinyl over coat to make it shine! You will also nee White under all the colors so don't think you can just get a Vinyl color and just use it!
Also it's a prettier finish when done well and it much tougher than Powder paint even cured!

Skip, thanks for the reply. I paint everything with powder paint. I am wanting to put the vinyl clear gloss over the cured powder paint for even harder finish and nice gloss. Am I doing this wrong? Thanks again. Pop
No it will go over Powder Paint fine so you can if you want to. It is also a good finish coat over eyes, painted or stick on. I use it if I have to paint eyes on. I first used Sally Henson's Hard as Nails, but it discolored my favorite colors, Chartreuse. So I tried the Clear Vinyl after asking CSI if this was okay and it worked like a charm and didn't discolor Chartreuse. Some guys even dip the heads in Clear Vinyl, but I just didn't feel comfortable with that method so I brush it on with an artist brush.
