a close alternative for wrapping is premier pixie dust yarn has sparkle ,some short fibers that stick out and great colors. satin strands can work for longer lengths . tho it is softer it works as highlight
I love using peacock for flies and jigs. Have caught trout, perch, crappie, salmon, steelhead and many other fish on it.
I hate tying with it though!
I see a lot of artificial colors in chenille to mimic peacock, but they don't have the natural iridescence.
I have never seen a substitute for peacock swords which is a huge part of the jigs and flies I tie.
I have tried hackle, marabou and other different materials and they did not perform even close to the sword tails.
Even crystal flash, flashabou, and other flash materials didn't have the fish catching effectiveness.
So those that use the alternatives, what have you found is the best chenille to best replicate peacock herl?
Has anyone found a realistic artificial for peacock swords?

I’d like you to look at the micro wooly bugger chenille. It has some flash built into it and for me, just the right amount of bulk. It comes in sizes from micro on up. I use the black with green flash a lot on my bluegill jigs. Those fish hate em and eat em quick usually.
Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
Closest to peacock herl color wise to me is palmer chenille in peacock or black. Really like the small size, about 3/8" long, great for wrapping bodies or just a little flash around the collar.
A dubbing loop with ice dub makes a great rope. You can pick it out too for extra bugginess.
The herl is just too short a lot of times and making a big body with it is just a pain.
