    Default Bluegill fry

Working on a 2" bluegill fry imitation for the fly rod this spring when the crappies are up shallow. Here is where I am after test #3. It swims well, has a nice darting action, but now I need to fine tune the color a bit and go up one size hook I think. Those huge eyes really flash well in the water, and serve an important part in the action of this one. Plus maybe that big ol paper lips will think this is looking at him funny and eat it out of anger Name: 20230127_201956.jpg

It is. It uses the top of the bucktail which is softer and flows well in the water, similar to squirrel.

It works on a jig head too. I dont know if the big tuna eyes are as important. I can test it in the bait tank later. A 4mm may look better to fishermen, but i betcha the fish like that big 6mm eye.

    This is a 1/16 #4 with a little different bluegill patternName: 20230128_144030.jpg
