Your work is always top notch. Looking forward to see what else you do with the squirrel tails. I use it for nymph flies and small bluegill jigs. Like I said, I don't need anything in return. I learn a lot from your posts!

Well the shed arrived and it was tricky maneuvering it along the drive and through the gate. Setup was quick. They set down those solid cinder blocks, and placed scraps of pressure treated lumber on top to level. Then they used the screw down rods to secure it firmly to the blocks so wind doesn’t lift it and roll it around the yard.

I was chatting with the lead installer and he said that the unit was rated for 165 mph hurricane winds. I laughed. Then I said yes, it will withstand hurricane winds at that speed, but the rating you are so proud of is for five seconds. Seen any five second hurricanes. I haven’t either. He admitted he had never read the whole claim as I had.

There were a few blemishes here and there and he seemed concerned about my acceptance. I announced it is a shed. With that we were all done and they left. The trailer they hauled it in on was amazing. It would push the truck forward, tilt, lift, and move sideways according to a remote control. I was amazed to watch how it moved the trailer through the gate and around trees and into place.

Yesterday was the crappie club meeting. I arrived early and cooked the fish. Not many showed up. I think we had ten people. Anyways I set my gifts out on the table and told everyone to have at them. All were hesitant until they heard me utter- FREE.




Most were taken by just a few but all seemed to pick through and nab some specials. I told them to take them all so that I wouldn’t have to bring them back again. One feller took a few of my boxes as well, which I had asked them to leave for me. Oh well. My mistake.

I heard commentary about what makes a crappie bite and what shuts them down. Same same as is on here. Solunar always gets mentioned. I have never seen Solunar work…..not ever. Then there was the old barometer being mentioned as if the orator was part scientist. I asked……the change in pressure is so slight……what if the fish dives down three inches……that would be a huge change in pressure when compared. Hmmmmmm……. nope I was wrong about that. Hmmmmm…..wonder what I forgot to consider.

I asked how in our huge lakes that the fish on one side do the same thing as the fish on the other and they all do it at the exact same time. as if a giant gong gets rung and it’s festival time. Then the gong sounds and festival is over. Weird.

Sometimes I lay in bed and wonder what a crappie actually sees when my jig go swimming by. Does he see it, does he smell it, does he feel it, does he hear it ? How does he sense it and which sense is predominate ?

One of the “scientists” said that my jigs need blades and flapping tails so they can locate the jig via sensing vibrations. Another wondered if blades making noises was how they locate the object as it attempts to slide past them. Everyone agreed that the tannic water makes it too difficult to actually see it. I am unsure about that though. We see stained dark water- they may not. They might see all manner of things.

We also discussed lakes that have a huge population of shad. I wondered if there were not some massive crappie sulking on the bottom that rise up every so often to nab a shad and then back down they go to sulk. No chance to catch that one. I mean unless he goes rogue and forgets how easy his life can be.

When we troll we usually gather some speed and cruise along at 1 mph or more. I wonder if that works well for little ones, but big ones want slower. I will experiment with speed a little more in the future.


BTW- I asked if I should ask members to make donations to the club instead of saying jigs for free. I was told the club is flush with cash and doesn’t need any money. Apparently benefactors from history have prepared for my future and I never even got the email.

1/16th ounce, EC 571 in 1/0. Paint is white base, dip for a chin, finish in clear UV. I left the collars on and just squeezed the bait keeper barb flat. This provides a fatter body when wrapped. Regular 3D eyes Gorilla glued on. I chose a matching mareaboo and added a small amount of white for a belly. Easy enough.


Stayed home sick today. Probably tomorrow too. Dry cough, feel off, hot and cold. Three Covid shots and had a bout with Covid in July. I think this is a regular cold though. Wife bringing home testing supplies and cough drops. Watched YewTube and stuff. Hope I can have family over for the holiday.
