    Default Thread size

So I am trying to give this jig tying a shot. I am having trouble with my thread breaking. What size thread is everybody using ? I'm sure I got the wrong size. I should have ask before buying. Thanks for any help.

Curly I have always been too heavy handed when tying and break my thread. Since most of my ties are larger jigs (no flies) I switched to Kevlar thread and cover it with chenille. I'm sure you will get the tension right in the future .

This is all I use or at least for now. I mostly only use white. Before I tie off I take a sharpie with whatever color matches the body I’m using and color the thread. I’m thinking of making the switch to clear mono though.

I'm with the others, mainly use 210 in several types. Occasionally drop down to 140 cheapo.

The Danville is good and also the Ultra 210, it is a non-fuzzy solid strand and thin so it does good in small thread collars.
Kevlar is tough and not too large diameter.
You will likely find the smaller thread may be better for small jigs, but the larger size like mentioned works well with 210.

I use 210 denier flat wax 85% of the time. I use 140 denier flax wax the other 15%. Anything smaller breaks to easy for me.

I use 210 for 98% of everything I tie. From crappie jugs, to Clouser minnows the works. It's always done good for me.

It could also be the bobbin, I've bought a few with sharp edges that would cut thread.

Jim is oh so correct. I have had 1 or 2 that cut my thread brand new, and look close cause if it is cracked or chipped it is a goner. I am a believer in ceramic tips.
