    Default Flake paint curing

Have a few flake colors from TJ's and having trouble curing them. They seem to want to run. First batch I did at 350 for 12min. Second batch I did at 285 for 12min. Oven has been temp verified. Both run. They do hang nose down, but in this case, unlike a solid color where it wouldn't matter if I put them in a clamp and did them nose up, the flake runs down hill, so it's going to clump up either way, whether it's the nose or the back of the head, around the hook shank.

Seems to me those candy colors do the same thing,,,,I ruined a good batch just yesterday,,,any suggestions? I’m to the point of not even baking those anymore and just clear coat everything after.

I'm already getting paint running at 350. Maybe I need to use a different thermometer to calibrate my oven.

Candy colors with a base coat are running as well, even with a super light coat of each. What I found to help with candy colors running with a base coat is cure the base coat first.

That's what I'm doing with the flake too, but it's still running.

One thing I found on flake colors and candy was the head temp when I dipped. Was heating them to a count of 10 like I do regular colors. That seemed to pick up to much paint and caused runs. Might try cutting heat time in half dip and see if it picks up paint if not add another count until it gets right. When doing that I don’t have any trouble curing at 325 for 30

I usually only do a 2 count per side on a 1/32. I try to air a little on the too cool side if anything. I'll keep playing with it.
