    Default Question about Kip tail.

I finished these this morning and was wondering what you might think. They are not for sale yet and I just need an opinion. I have been making kip tail, rabbit and some goatjigs. I asked earlier what kind of a price I might get and was told maybe $1.50. My question is that with the cost of kip tail and how hard it is to find them long enough to make good 1/8 oz jigs....do you think I could get anymore? Like $2.00 or should just settle? What ya think?

My thought is you'll never get your money back using kip tail and the quality of the jigs you make. Keep the quality coming.

I saw on Facebook awhile back a guy selling unpainted hand ties for $2 a pop. Blew my mind people lining up for them. Not only were they not painted but quality of the tie was subpar. Only reason he was selling them was he was well known in the tourney trail.

Price to me depends on the quality of the jig from the paint to if there are eyes, clear coated, what hook, material used, etc. The jighead itself sets the tone though on any jig. Then you have to find a buyer.

I agree with the others. Make them like you have and charge what you need to charge.

You’ll never get enough money for what you do in custom made jigs and if you had to charge for your labor they would be closer to three dollars each.

Set your pruce. If they don't sell, maybe use that response to adjust your price.

Thanks. We will see. I got a lot of kip tails a few of years ago but will be expensive to replace them. I can settle for less and any income will help. Got about 1500 jigs made so far and plan on listing them at the end of the month when I return o the States. Just wondering how the response will be. Plan on listing here and on ebay. Have a friend to help set me up on Facebook. Thinking about asking $4.99 for 3 and see what happens. $2.00 shipping and free shipping on more than one order.
Please understand...I am not selling now! I am just talking and asking for opinions and advice. I have lots of rabbit strips and really like the looks and action of those jigs so it may balance the expense of the kip tail jigs. I like them a lot too. Thanks for your comments.

I never charged that much of mine when I was tying for others. Personally I find it hard to charge more than $6.00 for a pack of 4 jigs including my 1/16 oz Kiptail jigs. Now when we go to Roadrunners with all the trouble and extra pieces that one goes to like $2.50 each, but that's a lot more work than what you are doing on these. I also think tying jigs to make money is not a good idea for a lot of reasons with the main one is you can't make a living tying jigs without working your hands to the bone! Tying because you enjoy it is something you can loose trying to make everyone happy except yourself!

    Just my 2 cents.

Thanks Skip. I get what you are saying. Being here out of the country with nothing to do is a bit different. Last year I about went crazy with boredom. This year I focused on tying and have been much happier. If I get $1.50 I can be fine with that...if I only get $1.00...still beats a blank. Anything I make is helpful and it gives me something to do. Not like when I was working and my time was worth something.
