    Default DIY Dubbing Spinner

I was wanting to try to use some dubbing to try to come up with different body colors/ patterns. Alas, no dubbing spinner. Put my pea brain to work thinking and smoke started rolling out my ears, lol. I wound up wit a silver llarg paper clip straightened out pretty well but not perfect. I bent a hook in one end, and using a couple large sized, *mm i think, non-magnetic Hematite beads for weight on the other end. I have to continuously spin it between my fingers, but I thought it worked pretty well.

I spun up some Racoon tail hair, with a couple hic-ups due to a foggy brain at 12:30AM, long day, forgot the wax on thread, and to clean the underfur, and proceeded to wrap a 1/32 jig, just to see what it looked like. No tail, just the dubbing on the jig...thoughts, critiquing, comments welcome Name: 20220121_213323.jpg

That's the military training, eh? I've been out 45 years and still tie my shoes the same way! Long days on the flight deck during vertical replenishment for the fleet will harden you forever!

Very cool. I’ve heard of them being made with clothes hanger wire before. I like that the paper clip is thinner though. I've done some yarn that I brushed with a dog brush then spun the fluffy stuff together and made some cool things. Should provide a huge unlimited bunch of ideas.

AMEN on the hardening. I was a cook, and I can't tell you how many time replacements didn't come in on time. Both overseas and stateside. One shift, all personell, for months on end. After about a week, your tail quit draggin' the ground, and you got your second wind. O330 till whenever, to turn back into the kitchen at 0330 the next morning...7 days a week. Didn't matter how many troops, and how few cooks, three meals a day, and they better be right.

I remember a thread some where you were talking about the yarn and dog brush. I wonder if you had tried using an electric coffee grinder, and cutting your unteased yarn in it. You cut the yarn in short pieces, put about 15-20 pieces in, maybe a bit of cut up flash. hit the button a few times and presto instant dubbing. I been watching quite a few YouTube videos on Fly-tying, looking for some that can be converted over for jigs fairly easily, and came accross someone doing it that way. If you want to change the color a bit, add a bit more of one or the other...I'll see if I can find it again, and post it up.

Yeah I think that was a year or two back on that thread. I’ve seen videos too on the grinder but never have invested in one to do it. So many things to do and try and so very little time. Interested in seeing what you come up with.
