I have a little more I should add. 90% of my bucktail ties are for walleye, bass or perch of some kind. For panfish I prefer some hackle or feathers or even skirt silicon material. I guess use what works in your area best.

Your kip looks pretty good. One thing I do is put a little on back then rotate and put a little more on under side to kind of fill it out a little more. To me hair jigs work better in colder water and like others have said a little less is a lot better at times. And your proportions seem fine to me for the jig head size. Just keep after it. You will get it figured out. Like Ksnouf said I always add just a couple of strands of flash to mine.

Thank you grumpy I will definitely check those tonight when I get home and see how well it holds in there by pulling on it a little bit. Until now I've never tied crappie jigs with anything other than Marabou. I fish public docks alot in the winter and was just trying something new so maybe something different would be the secret weapon.

Cray, thank you for the advise. I had never thought about doing a little bit on both top and bottom but that would spread it out a little bit more and I think give it the look I was hoping for.

I plan on trying to tie some with neck hackle really soon and I'm sure I will be asking you all's opinion on them soon. Thank you all!

Looks good to me! I tie a lot of bucktail and probably my favorite. Haven’t used lip tail as every time I see it in stores the hairs look to short for my needs.

Drnip, I was thinking the same thing too on kip tail until I got some out of the package and was surprised how long it actually was. I'm glad to hear you have luck with the buck tail. we are in the same state so that makes me think they might actually work!

Good ties. I really like hair in cold water. More subtle action in my opinion.

I like the jigs you tied. You’ve gotten some good comments so far. Keep after it and listen to the fish, they’ll tell you what they like.

I tie a ton with buck tail. One thing to remember, it is easier to tie two or three small clumps of hair than it is one big clump. Between clumps, I use super glue.
