I need to clarify. I only built the small fly tying station. The big desk, shelves etc is a store bought computer desk from years ago. I have done quite a bit of woodworking and made a few split bamboo fly rods. The fly rods are not as perfect as some of the makers but are my pride and joys.

I actually have tied only a few crappie jigs. I mainly tie trout flies, some streamers for bass and some saltwater flies. May be getting into more jigs now.

Wow, I like that rod. I have made prolly 2 dozen rods back in the 80's and they turned out ok but I found they were pretty expensive to hand make and take me a long time to get done right. I still like your desk, lol

Thanks, these rods take a lot of hours to make. It gets pretty tedious and time consuming when you get down to taking .oo1 of an inch shaving per cut with a hand plane on six triangle sections to get to the final tapers.

Oh I know about time consuming, the wraps on each eyelet and then the sealer on the thread. I did not have a motorized rotate device for the rod so I manually did the rotation till dry. That takes a lot of beer back in those days. And finding the spine on the rods to get it turned the right direction took time but dern it was fun. You really felt like you did something when you caught that first fish on a rod you made and a jig/fly you tied. What a wonderful hobby so full of memories.

Here is the desk I made to tie here in St Lucia. It sits on the top of 2 side tables and I have a locking wood nut under each side. Easy to lift and move. I wanted the vise low so my hand can rest on it. Cut a large notch out of the left side as I am left handed and have room to swing the bobbin holders.

Very nice idea ksnouf. Ohio folks have ingenuity. I spent 60 of my 76 years in Ohio (Toledo and Akron). Jack Manda up at Portage Lakes was another very innovative and creative person who figured out ways to make things work for him too. Thank you for posting this. It just might give us all some ideas.
