Looked at alot of videos about the whip stitch. This one using rope is the first time it really sunk in.

That is a great video. He makes it look easier to do with your fingers than using a whip finisher

Once you look at a video and practice a little the whip finishers work very well. Some years ago I found a link to a 5 step or so file and the photos took you thru the whole process. I liked that better than a video and should try and dig it out and figure out how to post it.

I tied half hitches for years because the whip finish looked too difficult for my pea brain. My buddy convinced me it would make my flies and jigs look much better. Now I can't imagine not using it, but I'll stick with the tool.
