    Default Duck Feathers

One of my other hobbies is duck hunting.
I'm new to tying jigs and I've tied several marabou jigs.
I was thinking of using some feathers from ducks i harvest.
Does anyone have any tried and true patterns that work on crappie?
I was just going to replace the marabou with duck feathers. Then I googled duck flies and saw several images. Has anyone had any success on crappie with patterns like these?

You need to search JUNGLEJIMJIGS here on cdc. He is a master at the duck feathers! One of his threads below.

You can tie fly patterns on jigs but you have to tie them with the jig hook up in your vise so they look right. Keep all your flank feathers, I wash mine in a mix of Dawn and Borax, then a good rinse and into a pillow case in the dryer for 10 minutes then no heat to finish the drying then bag them up. You can also dye them many colors. I would keep type of flank feathers separate. and you already know lemon wood duck feathers for Catskill flys.

I always had very good luck with most of the wet fly trout patterns. Gills just loved them. Float ‘N Fly or slow drifts with the current worked well.

Absolutely my favorite jig is the float n fly with mallard or gadwall flank feathers. It's deadly on crappie but I catch everything on them. Just took pictures of some that I plan on listing on ebay today if anyone is interested take a look. I'll post a couple pics here first.Name: IMG_2262.JPG

Flank feathers are the best ones from a duck.

So many patterns and so many uses. I've tried for years to get local duck hunters to save me feathers including wings and tail as well as flank. Lots of great patterns out there with duck feathers.
