    Default Hiding a hole

When I bought my current boat it had a large domed compass that didn’t work on the ledge to the right of the console, where the sonars mount. I removed it and that left a 3 1/2-4” hole. I wanted to fill or cover it but couldn’t find anything that looked right or halfway decent so I decided to make something. I started by cutting a circle of plexiglass from a piece I had that would cover the hole and could use the existing holes the compass had been mounted with. About the time I’d got it cut out and holes drilled an idea came to me. I borrowed a theme, you might say, from decals I’m sure you’ve seen before. So I drew a rough picture to make a stencil from that took me MUCH longer than it would someone with artistic ability. No telling how many attempts before I got it halfway acceptable. I used spray paint I had on hand that was close to matching the boat to paint a base color and then placed the stencil over it and sprayed the other color to make the picture. The lettering is stick on I swiped from my wife’s craft stuff. A few coats of automotive clearcoat and it was ready to install. It’s started a few conversations and helped me keep my direction much better than a broken compass would have too. ( It’s supposed to be a fisherman with a rod on his hand on the bow of a boat.)

Looks like that fella is holding the jig and loading the rod to shoot.

Good job. My artistic range doesn't extend past stick figures

That’s a great idea and execution! I have some talent but drawing isn’t one I possess (sp). Helps one focus and remember sometimes.
