    there are 4 bushings and you need to set end play to align pulleys , herters were kind of generous with tolerances ... but tightened up its great. I like the indexing and the anti rverse feature....

    Shims are fairly easy to come by. I did see a spring retracting, clutched bobbin yesterday that would work well on a rotary. Elgin maybe was the brand. I do know it starts with an E

    I measured end play with a depth mic. then turned ,bored and parted off so shim is one piece....

    That works as well. That would give me reason to knock the dust off the lathe

    I started tying on a Herter's vise, wow, 60 years ago. It worked well but wasn't "stylish" and was replaced by a Thompson A.

    The Thompson A is a simple but very good vise. I have one in storage somewhere if I ever get a place set up again.

    For what little they were asking for the vise. I took it home. I tie very infrequently now as it is. It is a much better vise than the cheap one I bought years ago
