    Default Coloring squirrel tails

What dyes or colors do you guys use to color squirrel tail? I’d like chartreuse, orange, etc. I tried RIT dye but did not get what I wanted out of that.

I am not sure, maybe you should try bleaching them first? I have no clue really. I can tell you that I have some tails that were dyed, but not by me. I just buy them.

Hareline does the dying and the pic in my Sig is a Squirrel Tail Combo Pack from them so I know it can be done.

I’ve done turkey feathers for fletching used on arrows. The formula I used had me adding vinegar to the solution to set the color. Without the vinegar the colors were a pale representation of the dye.

I use fly dye from Lure Parts online they have a regular orange and Fl. Orange but are out of chartreuse. A little goes a long ways. To set the color you have to use white vinegar.

I appreciate that info RJR and Fatman. I will give the vinegar a shot and I'll try the dye!
