New jigs to test

Had to tie some more jigs. Been fishing and been getting skunked. Water is clear to 4-5 feet down, in 6' to 28 feet of water. Fishing from a bridge 8' above water so not sure other than a bit cooler than my showers...have caught a single crappie and a single white bass. Have tried dead sticking it, vertical casting...dropping to the bottom and slowly reeling up, like one full turn in of the handle per 3 seconds, casting under the bridge, along the bridge. If these don't work I may try electroshock theropy... lol, no just kidding. But really, what else is their to try??? Open to suggestions...

Yes sir they are. I have gotten a 10" crappie, and a 12" white bass. Can see groups of shad swimming around at times. I have pulled a 13.75" crappie from under the bridge before, but nothing but that one crappie and bass lately. Others have pulled an occasional fish out, so yes they are their.
Maybe just not holding my mouth right or something...

I remember when I was learning to surf fish. My favorite beach was the only one you could drive on. That was why I liked it. Anyways I never caught very much there, so assumed surf fishing was just that way. Then one day a man pulled up in a four wheel drive Suburban and proceeded to setup next to me. I saw he had quite the setup. Then I saw him cast and WOW…….it must have gone 100 yards.

So I asked the man a few questions and he asked me why I was fishing there. Turns out the water was like a foot or two deep at least 75 yards out. That to catch any fish there you had to cast at least 100 yards. Later I learned to cast and was able to go right back there and catch fish there. Yes, I was managing to cast my baited rigs over 150 yards, and actually reach the fish. Many times after I learned, I fished that spot and watched others casting out 30 yards like I had done. That was when I discovered that most people just don’t want advice- when the advice is to find another spot.

My advice is to find another spot. Your jigs are not the problem. We have all seen them. You are unable to present them properly or it’s a bad angle or there are no fish there. There is something wrong. I understand that mobility is an issue and access as well. Look around some and see if you can discover a new spot that you can get to, where you can put your jigs into action in a more effective manner.

I can cruise these lakes all day and never get a bite. Then hit a certain area and here they come. I learned fish where the fish are and not where I want them to be. Good luck.

I don’t know what color your using, but in clear water I like, Silver/Silver/Blue or Silver/Blue/White or Silver/Silver/FL Blue. Maybe try one of these?

I will only tell of what I’ve found about bridges. We have a bridge here that is a mile and a third, pretty close. Each set of piling has like 7 posts tin a line on the northbound side and the same on the southbound. A virtual forest of concrete posts. As I work them, I may go thru 10 to 15 sets with lackluster results, then hit 4 sets that make the live well very happy.
Another bridge has 5 columns. Try as I might, I’ve only ever caught fish on two of the five.
Not all bridges are created equal and I would move around all I could and make sure there isn’t a tree or structure that might hold some fish in an area you haven’t tried yet. If that comes out dry and nothing but an occasional fish, I would keep exploring. You might also get there just after daybreak and try the first hour or two, maybe they run from the sun after they feed early.

I think I'm going to set up a old fish finder I was give (thank you Rippin'lips) on a PVC pole and use a small 12v battery and walk along both sides of the bridge and see what's going on down their. Before the magnet fishers were their I pretty well knew where to fish, but since they disturbed everything I haven't caught much. It only has down scan but we will see. I agree with what your saying on the moving around and realize that for what ever reason some pilons hold fish and some don't. Next time I go I'll get some pictures. wish I could put a boat in and fish it properly, but don't have the $1000.00 fine and don't want my boat conficated...so It's lean over the top and cast under as far as you can. I have learned to skip a jig pretty good and can get pretty far under. That's how I caught that 13.75 inch crappie.
If I could get around better, I would get me some snake proof boots and work the west bank. I don't like nor trust snakes at all. So I am only fishing the bridge at this lake. I had thought their might had been an old creek channel, but previous trips with that fish finder (like a year or so ago) proved that their is none. The bottom slopes from one end to the other and no channel.

I used the catch flounder around the rip rap place at the pilings of the fishing pier on Dauphin Island. Man you could flat work them over around those rock. A hurricane came in and covered those rocks with sand. No more flounder caught there.

I recon I'll start picturing them separately again instead of a group shot in the box. Better shows the color combo's on some of the jigs...
