I have used pipe cleaners many times. The only issue with them is that they rust after being exposed to water so they are only good for one trip for me. I tie my own so it is not really a big deal to me.

Something else to consider is with pipe cleaner your adding weight from the wire.

I think that if you were trying a new style of jig, or a different color on the fly it would do the job.

I would try to clamp it to the hook shank, then make my wraps, then trim both ends. This will allow the wire to be wrapped tightly, close together coils. Post up pictures for us to see.
Maybe they will bite this one……

I have never actually used pipe cleaners so I would not talk it down, But chenille is easy to use and I would think would hold scent better. I look at the collar as a scent pad to help attract a thump.

I did purchase some chenille just a few minutes ago! I can’t seem to find flo orange around here.

No the quality is not as good and see no reason to add wire wrapping to my jig, but If I wanted wire wrapping it would be Copper or color wire to show segments.

I do use pipe cleaners a lot, but it's to clean my pipes, lol!
