BTW- I saw your propeller jig and was disappointed that the idea had already occurred to someone. Still......don’t want to be taking all the time so my propeller jigs will be a little different.

BTW-2- You said the propellers worked well. So why did you stop adding them ?

In dirty water I wonder why we even care about colors. Sunday all but one of my jigs got bit, yet all different colors from one another. Color didn’t seem to play a role. I am still playing with UV enhancements, but wonder if vibration isn’t more important to the fish. I imagine the goal is to make a “best jig” and never fish anything else.
Prop Jig, well I still have them it's just I like the Roadrunner/Pony head type bait best in spring and fall. Summer I go more to a ball head and heavier.

I still have a lot of Guinea feathers, but also have a load of Neck Hackle, Marabou, duck, rabbit, squirrel, (other hair types) not to mention capes and saddles out the yen yang, lol!

I just find it fun to try new things and see how they do and just like to ty all kinds of flies and jigs. So the best jig has it's days and also it's downfall days.

You mention colors and vibration, I do believe color make a big difference and have proved that many times right here of days that allowed the test and that also made the day for myself and partner. Have seen it so if a cloud was covering the sun one color worked and when the sun popped put a different color worked. It went back and forth all day like that. That is just one example of many. Vibration is huge too and send signals to that lateral line and together they can make a really good bait. However we should not forget the flash of the blade also having it's part.

It's a great hobby that pays in fun and food, lol! So have fun and try some other kinds of jigs if you please, but if not still enjoy it all!

If you ever read Greg Senyo's Fly Fusion book you'll read how he started tying flies using unconventional and synthetic materials for mostly steelhead fishing and essentially modernized the fly tying industry with new patterns. Some jig tyers (myself included) followed suit.

Today we have all kinds of cool and exciting materials to tie jigs with. The newer patterns are endless with all sorts of available resources to draw from.

All true and to each his or her own is what I say. I just prefer using natural materials for most of my tying, but I do have some craft fur and a few other synthetics, but don't use them a lot. The craft fur ties nice and fish will eat it, but I hate the way it tangles in each other in the box. Know a guide here on this lake that ties his own and it's all he uses.

Hair, my favorite I guess is Rabbit, but also like some other natural kinds. I find rabbit tuff and easy to tie really and can make the entire jig with the head and a strip of rabbit and the crappie love it as it's a lot like marabou.

Nice jigs Skip. I tied some a few years back, spurred from your post about them. I mostly tie for what I use or folks ask for now and don’t have much call for the guinea. Still have the feathers, and you know how history repeats itself.
