    Default Twin Diesels

My skill set with tying jigs is still a work in progress, but I don’t mind sharing my new design with you.

Used my new fluid bed to paint an aspirin head 1/16 oz jig, then added a nail polish eye. The hook on these is very aggressive. Both paints are highly UV reflective, and the two colors together look great when lit up.

Then I added the four legged rubber skirting material and lashed down two of the carwash mitten thingies. Which also reflect UV. So now I have bright orange, bright yellow and lime green colors all glowing.

I have been doing well with my UV enhanced homemade jigs and intend to continue that whole experiment while adding other things too. The mitten thingies will soak up scents, and that is next on my list of experiments. I had tried Slab Sauce in the original bottle but was like all thumbs with it. So I poured the spray bottle into a plastic vial and dipped with it. Much better but made a huge mess on the boat. Now I have rigged the vials to where they are secure and hung over the side of the boat where the drippings drop in the water.

I ordered the carwash mittens because they SHOULD suck up more sauce during the dip. I formed up a one wash mitten thingie jig but it looked thin. This is a two thingie jig and it looks like it will hold and deliver scent much better than a single.

    Twin Diesels

We all know crappie can bite very lightly and it is very easy to miss the take. I’m thinking adding scents will trick them into holding on just a split second longer as they will wish to taste the things, what they can smell, before spitting it back out. Fish grow up with a highly developed ability to spit. This because while in the learning process of what is food, what is not food, they took in many things that needed to be spit back out, not swallowed. When you are eating a burger, if there is a small bone chip in it.....you spit. This is very quick and automatic because you learned the food not food routine. Well a fish’s skill set is very highly developed, far more than a modern man’s is and I wish to lessen their ability to spit my jigs quickly.

So I add visual clues (UV) to get noticed and scents ( Slab Sauce ) to get a commitment.

I really appreciate all that you talented folks have been sharing on here. Thank you.
Maybe they will bite this one……

Pretty cool little jigs. The Slab Sauce can be messy but I’ve found as many others have the eye dropper bottle Ed sells is awesome. Precision application and no wasted mess. Let us know how the jigs work for you.

    Hey thanks for not laughing.

I played around some with the car wash mittens and discovered that if you turn them inside out, and trim away the fine mesh lining inside, you can see how they created the little bobs that stick out. Then if you simply pull a bob back through, it reveals itself as a piece of chenille just waiting for me to use. In this picture you can see what I mean on the lower left. The chenille part will pull away from the string it is wrapped around and leave little puff balls on the bench though. LOL. I strip a little away so I can wrap that string to the hook. You must wrap both ends or all your puffy stuff will slide right off.

Bottom jig was made using this chenille and is in the more traditional look you guys seem to prefer.

Just above that- middle on right- is completely made of car wash mitten materials, and surely will soak up a ton of Slab Sauce. LOL. I added the legs by snipping them away, and then added the chenille.

Just to the left of that one I added a spinner using a swivel meant for drop shot rigging. I felt it gave me more length rather easily. I simply took a section of heavy mono, tied a knot, inserted that into the swivels capture end and pulled tight. Then trimmed for length leaving some mono to strap down to hook shank. That extended the blade behind more so the two legs don’t interfere.

Above that- top middle- I used the regular swivel blade setup and just moved the legs forward making wings. Just behind that one- top left- I used an old trick from my surf fishing days. I tied a large knot in mono, slipped on a sequin, and then tied that onto the hook to make a waggle. Like a thumper tail. Not sure if it will be useful while trolling though, but one will never know if one is timid to try.

I have my favorite and that is old snowball there- middle on right. It is loaded with sauce grabbing fur and has lots of UV light reflectivity.

Bad picture ( UV flashlight ) but you get the idea. Little legs flapping along behind it emitting scent. I plan to make several of these in both the blue ( no UV flash ) and the chartreuse yellow/green ( bright UV flash ). Get out there and test them out to see how they compare to each other and with ordinary jigs without scent and little if any UV reflection.

Let me know if you have any suggestions for me. Really- even criticism will be welcomed. I learn by trial and error and enjoy creating new things. Gotta work today, but that is OK as it is miserable here and rainy.

BTW- I ordered some jigs from an outfit that is well known amongst you guys. Almost $100 worth of stuff. That was Feb 3rd and he still has not shipped any of it or replied to my emails. I started a PayPal complaint against him. I read where others had complained about how long it took to get anything, but they were talking weeks. So tell me, is it poor form to mention them by name so others don’t get taken ? I mean he has had my money for over two months and seems to think I am a clown or something.

BTW2- I plan to order some jig heads from Grizzly jigs even if their website is challenging my patience. I want to try minnow headed jigs in 1/8 ounce size for pulling behind my planer boards. Is there a write up of how minnow headed jigs swim vs round heads or aspirin heads ?

The "waggler" caught my attention right away. Looking forward to your experience with it. Very innovative baits.

Nice jigs and new concept on the twin diesel!
Grizzly jig is my go to supplier.
Yes there web site needs some help.
Wish I was a web designer I would help them.
I find it easier to just call Grizzly, tell them what I want.
    Much easier, IMHO.

Some cool looking stuff you made. They’ll surely hold more sc ent than anything I have, and the scent does work. A single tail would also work if you can make the chenille stay together. I’ll be waiting to see the results of your trials.
