fly patterns on a jig head

I use fly patterns a good bit in my jig tying when I experiment. At least I sue to fly tying materials in my jig tying at times, like a nail from a Jungle Cock cape on each side for eyes.
I also tie some flies and will fish with fly rod for Bluegill or what ever will hit when I want to have fun.

I guess you're talking about the Mayfly jig? If so I am not sure how you could tie it on the other side. That tail is one piece already made up so the hook would get in the way on the opposite side??

Skip, you are correct. On a jig the may fly would have to orient that way. On a dry fly hook it would go on the other side. When the fish are feeding on may fly hatches I doubt it matters how it is orientated unless it is a trout.

I tied three very close to this when I lived in TN and was looking for good gills and crackers. Worked excellent once I started putting it where it belonged and leaving it alone, letting it do the work. Never had a banner day but it exceeded my expectations. I do t do enough dubbing but it isn’t hard and has its applications. Very nice jig and color choice IMHO.

Skip I think the 4th picture in this series of jigs looks very similar to a willow fly which is a great bait for gills. I think with a smaller hook that jig would be deadly on them.

I had not thought of that, but guess I can just use a smaller tail and get that working with a smaller hook and lighter head. Going to look up your willow fly to see it.
