Looks great! Maybe shorten the tail just a little?
I will start off saying I’m pretty proud of my 17 year old he sent me this picture while I was working last night it was his first jig. And I will say I know nothing about tying jigs but I was pretty impressed and thought it was very good of course it is my son. He’s been wanting to try this for a few months so I reckon he took some of his Christmas money and ordered some stuff just curious what others thought about it and is there anything he could do different.

Looks great for a first jig for sure! It's hard to say much without knowing how he did it, but maybe cut the tip of the hackle to the length you want the tail, then cut the rest of the hackle up into 1/4" pieces of the stem. You can see how and what I mean on the videos I posted in the sticky post! The second link at the top of this post is the video of cutting my hackle. Then take one tip and stack 3 of the little V's on top and tie it in. It may help if he spends a little time here looking at the sticky post?

Looks good! I've know a couple of guys that put themselves thru college by tying flies.

Garrett that looks a whole lot better than my first jig. You'll enjoy it. There's always a new combination to try.
