Thought I would give this another try. I like the experiment of it. Got it wet so you could see the flash better.
I use the variegated feathers for the barred look. This jig does not look much like a crappie fry but I may try again. This is a jig from my box, not just now tied.
You guys are tying some knockouts, really good stuff. Used to use a gray and black with some flash in the tail that did well, maybe that’s what the crappie saw.
Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
all of these are crazy good! Fish don't take the time to see what species is in front of them! they see a flash, ID food and BOOM. it's in their gullet!
All of those are just excellent but If I took the time to make one it would be too pretty for me to use! LOL. It's like those $15 crankbaits I got as prizes at fishing shows which look so realistic but I can't ever put it on a line and toss it as I know i would get hung up on first cast!
I do make so small fry jigs. They range from 1/32 to 1/16 once and are my go to jigs when fishing gets tough.
They produce best during the hard water season and cold water. I seems that all fish eat fry.
I use fine rubber hackle or fur for tail material and all some glitter to the bodies.
Those are cool I really like them.
hdhntr , I used to be the same way bout losing lures, but they are of zero use in storage. Give them a shot of being productive.

I've been tying crappie jigs for over 25 years and the very best bluegill or crappie fry imitation I've used is mallard drake flank feathers with gadwall feathers at #2. The barring on these feathers are fantastic and tying a duck feather jig only takes a couple minutes. I've caught 10's of thousands of crappie, bluegill and bass using duck feather jigs since I started making them.
