Default What can I tie with these?

I heard Santa is bring me a tie flying kit for Christmas. So I'm collecting some material while it's hunting season. What kind of jigs and flies can I tie with these? The capes/skins are drying as we speak!Name: 20201115_003757.jpg

How much string do you need to fly your ties?

One deadly color combo for almost any place is Silver head, Blue Body and White tail.

You have a lot of hackle on these birds, but most useful in them in the soft hackle. Maybe the flank feathers will be good too. As much as I hunted when I was young and clean a ton of geese and ducks, I don't know what kind (look) of feathers they have. I know much of the soft hackle may be a bit wide, but should still work.

If you get some Gadwall, Teal or Pintail, the flank feathers is very nice!

Thanks, I'll keep that color combo in the memory banks.

I do have a lot of access to gadwall, pintail, teal and other species of waterfowl. I'm excited to start using other parts of the birds I shoot. I also have 3 pheasants my buddy is drying for me and some diver ducks.

Now you need to learn how to dye them! I would suggest you contact Fatman on here about that, he's been doing that a good while and probably will give you a bunch of tips.
