    Default Best fur

As you may know I started cross cutting rabbits for fly and jig material. Was wondering what other fur you have tried that works well. I meant other than bucktail and calf tail. I did cut up a coyote and it looked great but was too long for crappie jigs. Would be better for Bass or Stripers.

I have used coon tail, grey squirrel and fox squirrel tails and coyote. I just trim the tails if they are too long.

I like the Rabbit I have a lot, just right really. Even the crosscut used by it self is just fine.

Kiptail catches a lot of crappie, but it's harder to tie as you cut it off the hide where like Rabbit stays on the hide! Lots of hard types are used by cutting it off the hide and like you coyote would be good length cut off the hide and tied it like you would bucktail!

Of course the best I suppose would be Polar Bear, but next to impossible to get any at a reasonable cost.

On jigs I use a lot of Craft Fur. It is very durable and color fast
I also use Kip Tail for tail material.

My English Golden Retriever makes an excellent jig using some of his tail fur.

I like coon tail also. I have a few dyed different colors. The under fur, when combed out, makes a great dubbing, and the long hairs make great tail material for jigs and flies.

Mostly rabbit fur for me but I've only been tying part time a couple years mainly for trout. I did pickup up some squirrel zonkers on on clearance recently so I plan to tie some mini jig streamers soon.
