I use the "C" Clamp style and I can also take it to another place if I have a place to clamp it. I guess the only reason to use the Pedestal type is if you moving it all the time. I also do see why you can move the "C" Clamp enough to use and its more stable! Beside you can always add the other later, just but the Pedestal board later is you want it.

I started with the clamp but I have to tie on our kitchen table and didn't want to mess it up so had to use a towel to not mark it. I prefer the pedestal base personally as I can move it easily on the table closer or farther away from the edge as well as not messing up the table.

I have used both of them and I prefer the pedestal base because I can move it to any place I need.

I have used both. The C clamp was a hazard for my knees and nether regions. I went to the base and can move it around the table as needed.
Also, got a free magnetic round parts holder from Harbor freight and that sits on the base as a catch-all.

Regal pedestal mainly because it's mobile when it needs to be. Look at Dave's response....his wife obviously did not like the clamp on type. If you are married, you have to consider these things. Stick with us old guys...we know stuff. I'll send you a copy of my book, "How to handle Women !!!". It's a short read, but has a whole paragraph about clamp on vises and walnut !! ;-)

Prefer the clamp on my bench but got a heavy pedestal base for travel. The clamp on is like a rock. I tie lots and f base and saltwater jigs and I can really tie with a heavy hand and pressure

I C- clamp my Inex pedestal to the bench extension. Sometimes I get to leaning on the vise with my left hand and this was my solution. This way the only time the vise moves is when I want it to. I do have a Regal C-clamp set up with a longer stem but I find this handier. Easy to switch vises for different tasks. I'm not 100% used to the rotary so I've been switching back and forth with the Medallion. The Medallion has bigger jaws than the Revolution. I drilled some holes in the C-clamp holding the pedestal to hang flash. Yep I did get carried away with the magnets but they sure are handy.
