    Default Coon tail?

Anyone use coon tail for tying jigs or flies? I have one that is kinda tan between chocolate brown bars.

I do. Use a dog brush to comb out the under fur, makes good dubbing.

Love it for tying. Make a nice bushy tail for a wider profile.

In have tied some for a guy a long time ago now, probably 12 years ago and he told me that is all he uses. I much prefer Rabbit or Fox over Raccoon.

As far as underfur most everyone at some point has had one of the little combs for a mustache and that works great to get underfur out for me. Of course there are also tools made for that, lol!

Thanks for the tips on using the under fur for dubbing. I got around to tying up a couple jigs and using the long hairs for tails, then remembered the tips about dubbing. I pulled out some of that under fur and dubbed one of the bodies. Worked great! I'm going to use it on some trout flies too.
