    Default Peacock cubed

A little bit of time on my hands so this is my first try in about 2.5 years to tie anything.

Sword tail, herl body, eye back and tail over the sword.
    Copper fleck head, 1/16 I think on a #4 I think.

I know, really rough but having to figure out how to tie and deal with some new obstacles in life.

Interesting look for sure and I really like Peacock, but would like to know a little more about how you tied it?

Tied in the sword tail, easiest part.
Then I wrapped the herl for the body, tying in at the tail and wrapping the the head.
The eye was a pain and I have to tweek how to do iot right. I tied in the peacock eye at the head of the jig. Then I took the thread back to the tail.
Then I did the best I could to pull the eye tight and tied it in. I wanted a little flair so the herl would still be exposed some.
It was a trial in patience for sure! Still have to tweek it to make it look better. It will hold air in between the eye and the herl. Might be a good thing, might not be.

I am thinking that maybe tying in the peacock eye at the jig head and not tying it at the tail may give a better look but haven't tried it, yet. Not sure how to make a clean looking jig and get the eye to kinda form a curve and not stick out like a sail if I don't tie it down at the tail. Lots of trials for this to look better than my little mess.

Great looking bait. Peacock seems fragile, will that hold up after a couple of fish?

I have used peacock a lot for trout and it holds up pretty well, it will start to fray after a couple fish but it seems the fish just like it more the buggier and the worse it gets.

That jig would likely get torn up pretty quick and may not work so well after a couple fish, or it may work better. The peacock eye is just not right but was a prototype so I know what to fix now.

I won't know how well it works until the state recreational fishing ban is lifted, or I run out of food and have to fish for food.

I appreciate your work. I use it on trout flies myself and know it isn't always the easiest material to work with. The fact that you got that eye to display like that is amazing. Here's hoping we all get to test out our jigs and lures before we run out of food, eh?

Yes Peacock is fragile, but the fish love that stuff, lol!

If you didn't worry about the eye you could still make a decent body out of the herl, but add in some copper wire over the top for help.
