    Default Shave and a haircut?

I took the 1/80th to the barber...

So this is the one I showed earlier.... But with a haircut!

Which is likely a better trim..short or longer flowing or both as choices?
And I'll be using either marabou or hair.... These feathers on this tail were the barbules of cheap feathers that had the fuzzy down. I used mostly V's of the fuzzy soft stuff.

I got the other 18 jig heads painted and drying....so I will doing these jigs first. I may as well practice on these little ones. Name: IMG_20200216_161319.jpg

My personal Preference is for the natural tips to be used and not cut off. If I do any trimming, I do it with a new single edge razor blade and make sure that the tips stay irregular. It will still catch fish but I would have fished it as is and tied another with shorter tail. Let’s wait to hear what the fish say.

Yep, as this one is the only one I did, and it's tied with a cheap feather with the down barbules part near the base of the feather, I was trying to get it cut back a little to prevent what someone mentioned in another thread about having a short strike from overly long tail parts. I was kind of thinking the chopped look was rather abrupt looking, myself. So only one done like this, was to raise the question, so no harm, no foul, right?

As fishermen, we don't think it looks as good as a flowing natural feather tip. Do the fish care........I doubt it.

If you look at my pic it is squared off and catches lots of fish. Try yours a while, it will make the hot list or just become an experiment from the lab.

My rule of thumb is to only cut on the tied in side and adjust length that way. Fish are dumb though, they'll eat about anything sooner or later!

You’re exactly right though, no harm, no foul. I’ve tried some of those in my early days with mixed results.

The way I'm going, I'm on this steep learning curve. So when I tie a jig and it looks good to me, it's only because I don't know what looks good that I don't trust myself. My very first jig that I posted on a thread, " Don't laugh " was more of a sure bet, I knew it wasn't a good jig. Until I get more confident, I just need to buckle down and tie up some, and have them ready when I can get the boat in the water.
