Default Best - cheap - vise

Loaded question I know, but I don't fish with hand ties much. I would like to tie some and need a vise since I can't find the old cheap one I had. I have an amazon.com gift card that I got for Christmas, so I'd like to limit this to vises sold on there. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I cannot advise what is best, as I'm just a beginner. But I bought a vise, used on eBay. It was like $13 but add shipping and I paid over $20 for it. It didn't have an original box, so I don't know what model it was called. It is an import from India. I identified it as similar to a Super AA vise. It was in good shape so I can use it. It has a C clamp base, and I have a wooden desk, or my kitchen table is also wooden. I haven't used it yet because I haven't ordered my materials, but I'd like to get some thin slats of wood to place on the desk or table before I use it to prevent marring the wood with the C clamp.

Not on Amazon but J. Stockard has great selection and some rotary vises for $60.

I’ve looked at all the vises on amazon but was not impressed by the reviews on the cheaper ones.

Like most things you get what you pay for! Best thing you can do is go to a fly shop or Bass Pro and look at the vises and see how they work.

I personally do not know any cheap good vises. I can't recommend things I have not used or seen first hand.

This is the one I’m using and fairly satisfied with it.

But if I bought another griffin I’d buy this one just because I like the cam action over the knob for tightening.

If I buy another vise this is probably what I will buy.

I have the Renzetti Saltwater Traveler as my back up. I bought it and only used it for one year before I got my Nor-Vise. I like it a lot, very nice and I do love the Cam Jaw.

I use this Terra Rotating Spring Action Vise | FishUSA

I have used it for years for flies, crappie jigs, tying treble hooks, walleye bucktails.. everything. Not a single hiccup or issue.
