All jig heads will ride hook point up in the water, no matter how you tie it. Its just a bit easier to tie for me having the hook point down in the vice, gives better access to the hook shank for wrapping.
So my question is when I tied a Crappie jig the other day I placed the jig hook on my little vise with ball head jig hook point in the up position. I noticed then later, most others tie with hook point tip down. Does it matter? I'm used to a Crappie lure in soft plastic being hook point up. I built mine being able to visualize the top in it's profile as it would be in the water. If I tie it hook point down, for a Crappie jig, it's upside down. But maybe I just assumed since all jigs with plastics always were hook point up, that was the proper way. What say you all?

That probably explains why my tying looked crude....I tied it with point up....among other reasons. I'll get this when I get set up right.

I like to tie with the hook point up but when I finish the jig I flip it over to dress the belly bright as most crappie hunt food looking up. Those big eyes have trouble looking down I've read. Remember walleye are my most sought after here in the north but I do apply it to crappie baits to. Walleye look up too if they are not going on vibration.

I tie my jigs hook down, but some patterns call for you to flip it upside down to tie something in on the underneath side, much like the fly Crappie Candy.

The Krysta; Flash is tied on from under so just flip the vise over and tie it in. Here is a pic!
This is 4 colors.
Hook down for me. I get bit enough with these super sharp hooks.
