I would say if you could strap it to the hook then fish it.....lol. The fish will let you know if there are any problems.
Greetings all, my wife was tossing out a down pillow. I sliced it open and saw lots of feathers that looked like they could be useful to tie hackle tail jigs or popeye feather jigs. Is there a disadvantage to using down feathers versus neck hackle feathers to tie jigs??

Hackle is just feathers from I believe the neck of the bird. Its all feathers. No reason you can't use it

Use it up. Down feathers should be similar to marabou. They might not be as durable as commercial fly tying marabou, but the fish will eat it.
You also might watch a video on using mallard flank. If the feathers are wide and short it might help to see what I’d done with those. Show us when you’re done.
Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
I am sure you cause them for something, just need to have more than just the fuzz type, but most all Hackle can be used some way.
Even the fuzzy kind can be used as dubbing!
