    Default Hobby Lobby

I made my yearly trip to Hobby Lobby today and found some great tinsel for $1. You get 500 strands and it makes for great tail accents. Christmas time is a great time to load on jig tying materials. I found some more stuff that I think will make some great jig bodies. I post pics once I tie a few with it. Tomorrow I will try MJ Designs to see what else I can find. I love this time of year.

Walmart has some cheap tinsel as well as other items you might consider.

Just keep in mind most Christmas tint is not as strong as the tying tinsel that I have tried. Also the flash like Flashabou Magnum is twice as strong as the thin stuff and am pretty sure a lot stronger than Christmas tinsel. I got a bunch of that years ago, even got some Green and Red wide stuff and it's still sitting here. Maybe just me, but I love love the Holographic tinsel and it has a lot more firs in it when the sun hits it.

Hey it all will work, but how many fish before it's gone?

I have a jig I fished the last two weekends and it lost some of the flash this last trip. I caught maybe 20 fish before it fell off. It was from ribbon from Hobby Lobby so not as durable as I'd like.

I personally have never really checked it out, but have had a few guys tell me the small Flashabou disappears are about 70 fish, but feel sure very little is left at 50-60, lol! I am wondering now since the mag stuff is twice as strong, maybe it will last longer? Am sure it will show more flash just due to size, 1/32" when the regular is 1/64". It is a little more stiff though and I can't decide if I like that or not since I have not fished it yet.

I did get a little to see what I think, but also know there was another flash I got a few years ago that is the same size. They do say it's 2X Wider 2X Longer 2X Stronger, for a more durable fly!

That is a lot of fish to catch without losing a jig to a large catfish of a piece of structure

That’s a lot of fish off one jig. Goes to show when you make them you make them to last.

Well I have some even better stories, but personally I seem to always loose one before I can wear them out, lol! Now my neighbor and I fishing a few years back really got into the crappie when they first came in and we hammered them several times that week and he managed to keep the same little Roadrunner from a few trips out. We then figured he had caught about 125 fish before the tail was worn to just a short bit of marabou. After all it's marabou. As for Hackle jigs, I have had at lest two guys tell me they managed to catch over 300 on a single jig of mine. Of course in this lake that will never happen, too much wood here for sure. I guess even Hackle has a point it will wear away pretty much, lol!
