    Default Adding lead wire

Ive been adding lead wire to some jigs that i consider too lite.
Its a bit of a mess, wrapping it around the shank then adding hackle. Hackle won't lay well .
    Add hackle 1st?
What's the best way to add wire.

    Thanks

I have added it to flies. Always added it to the shank and then put whatever over it.

I have yet to play with wire but the videos I've seen online they usually add the wire first and secure before doing anything else. These were flies and not jigs though but I would think the same would apply. Might try an alternative to hackle like marabou or craft fur where you're not trying to align the feather on the jig. On my light jigs I'm just going to save them for plastics and only tie heavier ones I can cast or jig. I do have some really light ones I use on double rigs with the bottom the heavy jig.

Wrap it around the shank, a few drops for super glue, overwrap with thread , build jig as you normally would

Make a good base of thread and the make your lead wraps and then trap the lead wraps with more thread over the top of the lead wire and it doesn't need to completely cover it totally, just enough from start to finish to hold it well and then on little bit of Super Glue should make it stabilized!

Look at the patters on the lessons on FAOL and you can find any answer to all your questions. Best lessons out there even if it is flies, they still tie the same way and better than most of us.

That's what I would do. Why add more work.
